Election Information
Elections for the District's five-member Board of Directors are held during even-numbered years. A candidate must be a registered voter residing within the boundaries of the District. Candidates qualify and are elected by geographic division. Pursuant to Gov’t Code §61040 (b), no person shall be a candidate for the Board of Directors that is elected by divisions or from divisions unless he or she is a voter of that division. In addition, the Board of Directors shall represent the interests of the entire district and not solely the interests of the residents and property owners in their divisions (Gov’t Code §61040 (c)).
For the November 2024 elections, Divisions 2 and 4 will be on the ballot, provided there is more than one candidate in any division. The filing period for nomination papers opens mid-July 2024, and closes mid-August 2024, unless an incumbent fails to file then the period is extended a week.
Paying for your Candidate Statement of Qualifications
Are you planning to run for a Director position on the San Juan Water District Board of Directors? Since San Juan Water District falls within two counties, two of the electoral divisions (Divisions 1 and 2) require the filing of nomination papers in both counties. The other three divisions require filing nomination papers only in Sacramento County.
Candidates may pay for a voluntary Candidate Statement of Qualifications. For more information on the process, please go to Placer County and/or Sacramento County elections websites.
