Water Treatment Plant Flocculation/Sedimentation Basin and Settled Water Channel Improvements (Wholesale)
This project involves improvements to SJWD's water treatment plant and includes replacement of existing treatment process equipment including mechanical flocculators and sludge collection equipment within the existing flocculation-sedimentation basins, construction of a new 9-foot by 290-foot concrete settled water channel, and 7-foot by 70-foot concrete overflow weir structure, and the replacement of existing redwood baffle walls. The work for this project also includes concrete surface rehabilitation of portions of the flocculation and sedimentation basins, associated electrical and piping improvements, and other miscellaneous work. This project replaces existing equipment that is beyond its useful lifespan, and also provides treatment plant operational redundancy.
Arc-Flash Electrical Safety Improvements Retail (Pump Stations) and Wholesale (WTP)
The existing electrical switchgear and associated electrical equipment that supplies power to the electrical equipment located in the treatment plant and pump stations has in many cases been in service for 30- to 40-years. This project is being implemented to perform improvements which were identified in a recent condition assessment on the District's existing electrical equipment, and will reduce the potential for equipment failures, and increase electrical safety.
2016-17 Mains & Services Projects (Retail)
Installation of new water main and water services to replace aged pipelines and services that have reached their useful lifespan. These projects include, 1) replacement of approximately 980 lineal feet of old 20-, 16-, and 12-inch steel pipeline with new 12-in pipe on Main Ave between Madison Ave and Twin Lakes, 2) replacement of approximately 1,575-LF of existing, aged 24-in steel pipeline with a new 12-inch pipeline located on Oak Avenue at and to the east of the Casa Robles High school, and 3) replacement of approximately 850-LF of old, existing steel 6-in pipeline with new 8-in pipeline on Dambacher Drive.
Oak Ave American River Canyon North/South Pressure Reducing Station (Retail)
This project is located at the intersection of ARC Drive and Oak Avenue, and consists of installing a new automated control valve station to be between two pressure zones. The project will reduce the excessive pressure in the ARC-South Zone when these two zones are seasonally interconnected to save pumping cost. The project will improve pumping plant efficiencies as well as fire emergency redundancy supply. Currently with no control valve in place when the interconnection pipeline is open the pressure in the ARC-South zone is too high and this contributes to an increase in pipeline and service leaks and customer service calls. The installation of the automatic control valve will provide the necessary supply to ARC-South without the over-pressurization.
Bacon/B2 Pressure Zone Control Valve Interties (Retail)
This project is planned to facilitate the expansion of the Bacon pressure zone into the northerly portion of the Sierra Zone. The construction of the new control valve station will result in an improved turnover of stored water in the Kokila Storage Reservoir, and that will contribute to improved water quality in the reservoir, as well as in some of the existing Bacon Zone distribution piping. The installation of the planned new PRS's and the expansion of the Bacon Zone into the Sierra Zone will also result in less demand on the existing Sierra Pump Station which is currently running at full capacity with all four pumps running during the high summer demand months (currently with no redundant pump in the event of a pump failure).
Bacon/Sierra Zone Control Valve Interties (Retail)
This project involves the installation of three new Pressure Reducing Stations (PRS's) to be constructed on the larger interconnections between the Bacon and Sierra zones. The installation of the planned new PRS's and the expansion of the Bacon Zone into the Sierra Zone will also result in less demand on the existing Sierra Pump Station which is currently running at full capacity with all four pumps running during the high summer demand months (currently with no redundant pump in the event of a pump failure).
Lower/Upper Granite Bay Zone Control Valve Intertie (Retail)
This project will provide an automated control or check valve station on the normally closed interconnection pipeline between the Upper Granite Bay (UGB) and Lower Granite Bay (LGB) pressure zones. Construction of this new LGB/UGB Valve Station will provide an automated response to provide supply from the LGB zone to the UGB zone in the event that there is a UGB pump station failure, fire emergency, or other operational need. Currently this LGB/UGB interconnection piping location has a normally closed isolation valve which is manually opened by Field Operations Personnel when needed however, the response time for an Operator to drive to the location of the valve is longer than the time that the system takes to depressurized when there is a pump station failure.
Los Lagos Tank Recoating and Mixing System Improvements (Retail)
The existing Los Lagos Tank is a 1.65 Million Gallon welded steel, above ground storage tank that supplies the Lower Granite Bay and Upper Granite Bay pressure zones. This tank has been in service several years beyond the expected life of the existing coating, and is in strong need of a recoating to adequately protect the steel tank structure and thereby provide the required service life. The planned recoating project will strip, clean and recoat the interior and exterior surfaces of the steel tank. And while the tank is out of service for recoating, a new stationary mixing system will be installed on the interior of the Los Lagos Tank which will facilitate improved mixing of the stored water, better disinfection control, and reduce the potential for disinfection byproduct formation to improve water quality.
Pipelines and Water Services Improvements Projects (Retail)
This project involved installation of new water distribution pipelines and water services to replace existing, aged pipelines and services that have reached their useful lifespan. These projects were identified in SJWD's Retail Master Plan and other planning and budgeting documents, and included the replacement of pipelines and services on all or portions of Oak Avenue between Filbert Ave and address 9219 Oak Ave (in Orangevale) and on Main Avenue between Lake Natoma Drive and Twin Lakes Avenue (in Orangevale)., and Douglas Blvd.
Pressure Control Valve Stations (Retail)
This project also included installing three (3) new Pressure Reducing Stations (PRV’s) consisting of piping, valves, fittings, meter vaults, enclosures and appurtenances. These PRV’s were located at the intersection of American River Canyon Dr. and Oak Ave. (in Folsom), on Cavitt Stallman Rd west of Hidden Valley Place, and near the intersection of Ramsgate Dr. and Olive Ranch Road (both in Granite Bay). These PRV projects benefit SJWD’s water customers by controlling pressure of water supply to the customers located within the District’s Sierra and ARC-South service pressure zones, and also help to provide supplemental water supply for emergencies such as a fire demand.
