The San Juan Family of Water Agencies The San Juan Family of Water Agencies includes four local water providers.
San Juan also provides water to a portion of the city of Folsom north of the American River and augments Sacramento Suburban Water Districts supply of surface water. This new community services district, the first of its kind in the state, was created to purchase the privately owned North Fork Ditch Company and provide water to the Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks water districts, Orange Vale Water Company and a portion of south Placer County. At the time, construction of Folsom Dam was underway and citizens viewed the creation of this new community services district as a way to ensure a long-term water supply. Today, San Juan Water District continues to provide its wholesale and retail customers with reliable, high-quality water just as voters envisioned over 50 years ago. High-Quality Water From SJWD to Your Tap Water for the San Juan Family of Water Agencies comes from two sources: surface water and groundwater. San Juan Water District diverts and treats surface water from Folsom Lake. This surface water is then distributed to wholesale and retail customers through hundreds of miles of pipeline. Orange Vale and San Juan customers receive all of their water from surface supplies. Customers of Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks water districts receive a mixture of surface water which comes from SJWD and groundwater, which comes from local wells.
