As part of our commitment to customers, we provide regional leadership to protect and ensure a long-term water supply for decades to come. Heres a snapshot of the programs we support.
Using water wisely through conjunctive use
We are partnering with 13 other water providers on a regional water master plan to ensure a reliable, high-quality water supply for the next 30 years and beyond. As part of this plan, we have agreed to follow a conjunctive use program, which means that we use our surface water during wet years and save our groundwater for drier years. This method will enhance water supply availability and reliability through groundwater and surface water management.
Implementing best management practices to promote efficient water use
We comply with all of the 14 California Urban Water Conservation Council’s best management practices, which are measurable and include long-term conservation programs. By supporting the BMPs, we provide such services as ongoing public education, free landscape irrigation reviews, rebate programs, plumbing retrofits and other programs to help our customers use water efficiently.
We recently spearheaded the development of a cooperative water conservation plan that shows how water providers can work together to comply with the BMPs. Implementing this plan will increase customers water conservation awareness and result in more cost-effective and efficient water conservation programs for participating water providers.
Supporting programs that protect our environmental values
In 2000, we joined 40 other water providers, businesses, environmental organizations, agricultural groups and public interest groups in signing the historic Water Forum Agreement. As a signatory, we have pledged to support programs that will provide a long-term water supply for our region while protecting the lower American River fishery flows.
The Regional Water Authority
We participated in two years of planning and workshops with more than 60 water industry executives to establish the Regional Water Authority (RWA). Inaugurated in June 2001, RWA provides a unified voice on water issues in Northern California, as well as helps its members including San Juan Water District protect and enhance the reliability, availability, affordability and quality of water resources.
